DJ Ik is into music, pure & simple - he has been playing and producing it for nearly 25 years. His roots are in hardcore punk & industrial,
but he eventually fell in love with the electronic sounds of ambient/idm, techno, and drum & bass. He is a founding member of Fragment - an electronic band
that has been around for 20 years, and with whom he has released 3 independent albums - and can currently be found in Curved Space Labs' M31 studio
working on new material across the spectrum, from ambient to drum & bass to dub. In the studio, Ik works primarily with fellow CSL founder and cohort DJ Jagdish,
embarking on unique efforts that look to expand the boundaries of musical creation.
As a DJ he has been known to play techno & tech-house, ambient & even hip hop sets, but he's focused primarily on drum & bass over the last 10 years.
He has worked the NYC circuit, as well as played dates in San Francisco, Washington DC, Miami, Cleveland & Pittsburgh, earning the respect of his peers and
club-goers nationwide. He was a co-founder & a resident of Compound, the landmark weekly Chinatown party that garnered respect in the underground
scene due to its reputation as being a party of pure music and dj appreciation with a multi-genre format. Dropping spontaneous, fluid & original sets landed
him regular guest slots at the infamous "Testpress Sundays" hosted by ISM Records' DJ Swingsett, and a bi-monthly residency at the Brooklyn Dub Lab
party Aperture. Dates at other key weeklies across the city, as well as countless sets at one-offs, house and rooftop parties, and special events saw Ik
make a steady rise on the NYC scene. He has played alongside such notable DJs as Dara, Klute, DB, Dr. S. Gachet, Mathematics, Rekha, Karsh Kale,
Miss Dinky and many others.
